Meiki's, 6916 NW Expressway - July 7, 2011

IrmasThe 5Star Dinner Club visited Meiki's Italian American Restaurant as the temperature topped 103 on Thursday. Several members of the club dine fairly frequently at Meiki's and really enjoy it, but on this particular night, Meiki's did not fare well. In fact, it fizzled in the sizzle. Most people come to Meiki's for home-cooked Italian food at a reasonable price. They don't expect much ambience, and they don't get it. Our server was friendly enough and was comfortable with the sarcasm we call humor. He simply forgot to ask about a side and forgot to bring a salad. Another server seemed to be running frantically across the restaurant. Most of the food we ordered was good enough--calzone, hamburger, spaghetti, and a sausage sandwich. French fries were homemade and excellent. The chicken sandwich was on the thin side. Salad consisted of 1 or 2 cucumbers, a slice of tomato and lots of lettuce. On any other night, Meiki's might have gotten a better rating than 2 1/2 stars, but not on this Thursday.
