BigTruck Tacos, 530 N.W. 23 - July 7, 2010

MauiAdvertised as Mexican street food, BigTruck Tacos is an adventure. Opened by some transplanted Austinites, this eatery definitely has a unique twist on some south of the border favorites First of all--come early. The place is about the size of a semi-truck trailer, and the line was out the door when we arrived at 11:00 a.m. Come when the weather's nice, and you can eat outside on one of their picnic tables. And I don't mean "patio", I mean picnic tables--the kind we used to find at watermelon stands. We managed to sit on a couple of the few bar stools in the place. Food is served in baskets with wax paper. In spite of all this, the place is always packed. People love their food. My friend order fried alvocado and a beef taco. The beef is flank steak. She said it was good, but she shied away from the bison dishes. Of course, I always order the bland bean and cheese burrito--just to be on the safe side. It was, however, a little spicier than I'm used to. I call my friend, "the princess". So, if she can abide this place, I figure anyone could. She said, "I would have liked a plate, but I would come back." If you decide to be adventurous and try this joint, check out the menu online ahead of time, come early, and come casual.
